Easy Custom Tufted Bed

Image
Hello! Long time no blog!!! A few things have happened - having 2 kids being first and foremost the reason for the season (of not posting)! I'm soooo excited to share this super cute craft, because I searched far and wide and couldn't find a good how-to!!  Materials Needed Ikea Kura  bed Cardboard the same size as the piece you're adding the tufting to x2 (my neighbors threw out a giant box they received a new couch in!! So fortuitous and I keep jokingly (but seriously) thanking them for their trash!!) Mod podge Cute fabric 2" foam Buttons (double the amount you'll be using to make the indents) Button covers (or alternatively, use the kind that have a back that you can sew - I used this kind + hot glue, but the other kind might make more sense!!) Hot glue (see above) Staple gun + staples Giant needle & thread (to sew through cardboard, so a thimble is pretty handy too!) Command strips Curtain rods (I used these because my kids would 100% pull down a tension r...

2nd Halloween Birthday Party

Image
Our little sweet Ruby had her 2nd annual costume  birthday party , and it was so much fun!! She has been reading a lot of books about dinosaurs, like Curious George, and has learned to ROOOOAAAAARRRR like a dinosaur, has a toy dinosaur, and a picture of one in her room, so what else was she to dress as but a dinosaur this year?? And keeping with our "classic movies of the 80's and 90's" theme from last year, what better "iconosauric" movie (sorry not sorry!) than "Jurassic Park"!! Wow, you guys look GREAT!!! Decorations!! I decided to take it a little easier this year than last, so my baking was VERY pared down and my decorations were a little less... but that's not to say we didn't do a great job!! 1) "Rurassic Park" invitation art - done by talented hubby one month in advance!! 2) Dinosaur "fossil" (thanks, Plaster of Paris!) molds - made a few weeks in advance with the help of a wonderful 7 year old!...

Alice in Wonderland Baby Shower!

Image
My little lady goes to the best in-home daycare ever, and one of her best friends is getting a new little sister!! Patti (our amazing nanny and dear friend) and I decided to throw a sprinkle (little shower!) for this fellow mama-to-be, and Patti came up with the super cute idea to make it Alice in Wonderland themed! To the Pinterest-machine we went!!! We did our best to make it cute, personalized, low-key, and tasty, and I think we succeeded on all fronts!! Keep in mind, with day jobs, kiddos, and general life getting in the way, we were extra careful to PLAN ahead! Most of the DIY projects were done the week prior to the shower, so that way, all we had to really do is show up! One week out.... I went to Joann Fabrics and found some super cute craft paper on sale for 40% off, woohoo! I used that pack for exterior signs (cute little sayings like "Wonderland", "Tea Party", "Right Way", "Wrong Way", "This Way", "That Way",...

Valentine's Day Baby Brunch

Image
We have our little one in a fun little day care at a wonderful woman's home, and she wanted to do something special for the babies! But what do you make for 1 year old kids since most of them aren't eating sugar??  I have been on an omelet kick for Ruby - I send her to "school" with little muffin-tin sized omelets each week in a baggie, so I thought, "hey, I could make these and use a cookie cutter to make them heart-shaped!" And I DID!!! It is so easy - just mix up whatever veggies/protein/dairy you like, and some eggs and milk, and bake at 350 for about 15-20 minutes. I sauteed some red pepper, mushrooms, and bacon, added cheese (it's a special occasion!), and heated them up in some small flat cake pans. Place the goodies on the bottom of the pan, then pour the beaten eggs and milk (usually one egg per serving size) over the top, and bake. Once it is no longer liquidy if you shake the pan, they're set!   I took them out, let them cool ...

Halloween Birthday Party

Our little Halloween baby had her first birthday, and OF COURSE we threw her an amazing party!! We are big fans of Indiana Jones, so we chose "Raiders of the Lost Ark" for our family costume and our exterior decorations. We carved the pumpkin like an Aztec death mask, and added some little skulls. Ted created a door design with Egyptian characters spelling Ruby! Inside, I made a TON of cheap & easy candy corn garland strands! I bought orange plates, used yellow paint from our friends' baby shower , and white paint from our redone doors and trim. I painted 12 plates and cut each plate into 8 pieces - this made SO MANY FEET of candy corn!! But it turned out adorable! I also printed out cute letters from  this free set , spelling out "Ruby's 1st Birthday!" We made the perfect amount of food - I knew I wanted fun, Halloween-themed snacks that are also kid-friendly, so we had "Halloweenies" (Pilsbury pastry dough cut up lik...
