MANLY PROJECT EDITION: Updated Etsy Logo!

Image
The manliest manly project - pink flying piggies!! Long ago, I had a strange dream about wearing a (rather ugly) necklace with a pig with wings, and in my dream, Ted asked about it and I said, "what, you don't like pig bees?!?" EVERYONE LIKES PIG BEES, JEEZ!! I woke up and thought, dang, that'd be a cute shop store name! And voila, such a fast-moving lady I am... a whopping 4+ years later, here I am with my very own pig bee logo!! I'm so excited - we went to  creativemarket.com  and found MANY adorable flying pigs, but these were the winners: Ted then put a little bee outfit and wings on the adorable piggie and changed its coloring: And now my store is updated from the "too boring to be named" shop to  pigmeepigbee.etsy.com ! Please go shopping!! I'll be updating my wares and photos soon!  Thank you, Ted!!!!

MANLY PROJECT EDITION: Nursery Changing Table

Image
Ted and I woke up one random day a few months ago and he suggested vintage shopping, saying he had a feeling that we'd find *something grand*. Turns out, we did! We were wandering through  Room Service  in Austin and on our way out, came across a fabulous mid-century table under some lamps and other things they were selling. I leaned on it (not wobbly!!), opened the drawers (slid easily!), and found a tag - "unfortunately painted credenza." Oh poor credenza! Let us take you home and make you doubly unfortunate, because although you are beautiful teak underneath, we are going to paint you again!! First of all, we decided to follow (almost to a T) this  inspiration board  as far as colors are concerned. (Isn't it adorable??) On top of that, we wanted to paint a cute cityscape on the dresser to look like this $700 anthropologie one: Here is the before (pardon the stuff on top!): Ted rented a spray gun, bought the paint, and sanded the grain marks from the pr...

MANLY PROJECT EDITION: Panel Wall

Image
Our home was built in 1955, and I'm sure has gone through many changes over the nearly 60 years it's been around! It has certainly gone through a lot in the past 4 years with me and Ted, but it's all for the better, we like to think ;)  One of the changes we recently have been focusing on is the living room. It came with a faux fireplace! Once upon a time, the fireplace and chimney were connected and we could've had a warm wonderful fire for the 2 weeks of winter that Texas has, as Ted likes to say... even though I get chilly under 80 degrees, so I may have enjoyed a fireplace! But by the time we met, the faux fireplace was merely a box atop a brick platform that extended into my craft room. When we finally decided to turn that room into a guest room by installing a murphy bed, we had to demolish the fireplace box. This meant our beautiful box from which we hung our stockings with care at Christmastime was now a blank wall. A little dull, we thought! Since the age o...

MANLY PROJECT EDITION: Pipe Shelves

Image
Ted and I live in a little old house that we love very much, but that is severely lacking in storage. We have a little hallway off the side of the kitchen that houses a nice shelving unit for all of our glassware and pretty things and knick knacks - that no one ever sees !!! We also store our bikes in there and can't fully open the door or walk in the dark without curse words being yelled... We decided after seeing  several   examples  of awesome DIY pipe shelves, what the hey? WE CAN DO IT!! We are going to now have a beautiful set of shelves to actually display our pretty glassware and lovely souvenirs and also some bar accouterments, ooh la la, in our dining room and become real grown-up entertainers! Granted, we DID consider purchasing something because sometimes we can be lazy, but the one at  Crate and Barrel , which is similarly sized, would be $1500 ... no thanks! Ours cost less than 1/3 of that at $400. Materials Pipes in differing lengths for...

MANLY PROJECT EDITION: Photo Booth!

Image
Ever since the first time I saw this picture, I've wanted to build a photo booth for our wedding: Lucky for me, I have some pretty handy men in my life!! Ted and my brother Frank (yes, the same Brother Franklin who will be officiating at our ceremony, VERY multi-talented!) spent hours yesterday IN A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR (it really was a pretty bad storm) putting together the framework for a photo booth - needless to say there are no pictures since they were hard at work and staying dry!  Today, Ted and I got to do the "easy part" of assembling the dry wall and wallpapering! We bought super adorable wallpaper with Parisian touches (the Eiffel Tower, of course, since we got engaged atop it!!), the World's Fair ferris wheel, Notre Dame, etc.! Frank brought us some leftover wainscoting to use at the bottom since our wallpaper wouldn't quite cover the square footage of the drywall! We also purchased some extra large frames on Etsy so we'd be able to ...
